Position
The Senior Victim Advocate ensures victims, family members, and communities impacted by crisis, violence, or tragedy receive streamlined, trauma‑informed support. Responsibilities include immediate crisis intervention, client intake, administrative support, and staff guidance.
Key Responsibilities
Provide clients with support using NOVA’s model of crisis intervention
Engage each client by completing the intake process
Create electronic client case files while maintaining proper documentation of clients served
Monitor on‑site Advocate schedules and assign clients to a designated advocate/ CWWV Specialist, or refer to an outside agency when necessary
Develop a professional relationship with clients through consistent interaction based on their level of need
Create intake folders, protection order paperwork packets, and other commonly used client packets when needed
Provide direct service‑related administrative support including faxing, uploading records to client files, filing, photocopying, returning administrative phone calls, scheduling, etc.
Build, foster, and maintain relationships with Clerk of Courts, Sheriff Deputies & Court personnel
Monitor Children Who Witness Violence Drop‑In Center security cameras throughout the day
Educate clients on their rights and the application of applying or waiving their rights as a victim of crime
Provide assistance with protection order paperwork, victim compensation paperwork, or VINE as needed
Maintain a working knowledge of all available resources that would benefit clients
Offer clients the ability to evaluate services
Empower clients to make informed decisions by providing options to meet their individual needs
Maintain proper documentation of clients served
Provide training, initial and ongoing, to Victim Advocates, volunteers, and interns in collaboration with supervisor
Hold volunteers and interns accountable for adhering to policies & procedures
Obtain service as a task supervisor for student interns upon request
Engage in all required staff and supervision meetings
Engage in professional development through required training
Maintain all licenses and certifications held
Maintain and advance in NACP when applicable
Adhere to MOUs with partnering agencies
Communicate high‑profile cases & significant issues to supervisor as soon as possible (24/7)
Represent the agency and/or victims engaged in collaborative projects/meetings upon request
Advocate for the needs of resources, equipment, or other recommendations to your supervisor
Participate as a member of the Summit County Crisis Response Team when responding on scene
Respond within 30 minutes upon request to a scene
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in a related field (preferred)
1 year of social services experience is required
Must reside within 25 miles of VAP’s main office
Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle throughout the duration of employment
Competence in administering services to families, adults, youth and/or children
Demonstrate a high level of emotional maturity and resilience in handling sensitive and challenging situations with compassion and professionalism
Exhibit strong leadership qualities by taking initiative, engaging in problem solving and critical thinking practices
Ability to pass a state and federal background check throughout employment
Communicate clearly, effectively and timely
A desire to learn, grow, and use your skills to provide exceptional services to clients

Things to Consider Before Applying
As a Victim Advocate, you may be exposed to distressing sights, sounds, and situations, such as crime scenes, photos of abuse, and recordings of violent incidents. Some situations may involve potential physical risks from victims or aggressors. The work can have significant physical and psychological impacts.
