Main Function:
- Demonstrates courteous telephone manner; handles routine calls; uses good judgement in the referral of non-routine calls; maintains appropriate duration for incoming calls; relays pertinent information to others in a complete & accurate manner.
- Schedules patient appointments according to established office protocols and triage guidelines.
- Consistently exhibits accurate attention to detail.
- Schedules/coordinate all patient preoperative appointments (internal and external) using guidelines and updates in medtel when needed.
- Communicates scheduled appointments with patient and requesting office
- Staffs the dedicated preoperative & Home testing line
- Processes all Home testing orders
- Schedules Home testing orders based on urgency of test and geographic area
- Apply and maintain Home testing template.
- Communicates and corrects Home testing orders to ensure accuracy.
- Updates patient demographic information and enter into electronic record.
- Creates new patient record as needed.
- Conducts insurance information verification and eligibility checks.
- Refers patients as needed to GFP and Griffin Hospital resources.
- Clear and concise communication when documenting patient cases in compliance with department polices and procedures.
- Pre- registers patients into the electronic record in compliance with department policies and procedures.
- Accurately identifies appropriate patient in the electronic record. Verifies key demographic data; notifies appropriate personnel if need to merge record arises.
- Alerts supervisor/manager of any system problems.
- Attends to personal affairs so as not to interfere with the work schedule. Does not allow outside commitments to interfere with work schedule.
- Never abuses or takes advantage of sick time or personal days. Rarely sick or absent from work keeps sick utilization to within Hospital standards.
- Provides proper notification for absence or change in schedule.
- Demonstrates reliability and consistently reports to work on time.
- Is willing to provide coverage for sick/vacation/absence of others in the department. Is consistently available to cover other shifts/times as needed by the department.
- Reviews, supports, and abides by and encourages Patient Satisfaction and Confidentiality Standards for the Department; exemplifies high standards of hospitality by extending to patients, visitors, physicians, and fellow employees courtesy, respect, concern, and prompt attention and service.
- Demonstrates adherence to hospital policy & procedures regarding Fire & Safety, HIPAA Privacy and Right to Know, Standard Precautions, and Disaster Plan and all mandatory in-service requirements.
- Demonstrates responsibility & accountability for job performance and personal conduct while on duty.
- Maintains & respects patient and employee dignity and confidentiality following customer service standards. Is courteous to patients, visitors, and employees. Uses appropriate language for the work setting.
- Wears I.D. badge and dresses appropriately for the position and hospital environment adhering to department dress code. Is clean and well groomed at all times.
- Projects a positive image of the Hospital when dealing with physicians, patients & families, visitors, and staff.
- Responds to requests in a friendly, co-operative manner. Establishes cooperative working relationships with hospital staff.
- Performs all functions in accordance with institutional & departmental policies & procedures. Observes all hospital policies and regulations governing conduct while at work.
- Competencies necessary to function as completed/updated and documented in the department.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Two or more years as a medical receptionist or equivalent.
