Job Summary
Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Palliative Care Physician to the team at NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem and NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan. Harlem Hospital is the largest hospital in Central Harlem and the only Safety Net Hospital in Northern Manhattan. The hospital maintains a strong academic affiliation with Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons to maintain the highest healthcare delivery standards. Metropolitan Hospital is a full‑service community hospital that provides state‑of‑the‑art care and leading‑edge technology in a modern environment and maintains a strong academic affiliation with New York Medical College to uphold high standards. This is a full‑time inpatient position shared between Harlem Hospital (0.6 FTE – 3 days per week) and Metropolitan Hospital (0.4 FTE – 2 days per week).

Responsibilities

Provide inpatient palliative care consultations and follow‑up visits.

Manage complex pain and symptom control issues.

Facilitate communication and shared decision‑making among patients, families, and the care team.

Serve as a clinical resource and educator for staff and trainees regarding palliative care principles.

Document assessments, goals of care, and care plans in the medical record in accordance with institutional and regulatory standards.

Participate in quality improvement, research, and program development initiatives related to palliative or end‑of‑life care.

Qualifications

Board Certified in Internal Medicine

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine

Unrestricted New York State Medical License

Wages and Benefits
Annual Base Salary: $241,000* (Board Eligible); $246,000* (Board Certified) based on a 40‑hour work week. Additional compensation available for extra call or sessional/per‑diem hours.

The annual total value of the compensation package is estimated at $360,620** (Board Eligible); $366,120** (Board Certified), which includes the baseline salary, 401(k) contribution, sessional/per‑diem hours, and other factors as set forth below.

Estimated annual compensation for 10 additional sessional/per‑diem hours worked per week is $55,520.

Projected bonus of up to $40,000 (based on previous year's average), contingent upon meeting quality and productivity targets.

401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS limits):

Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match.

After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match.

Annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) Reimbursement.
