Overview
The Department of Child Services helps children who are victims of abuse or neglect and strengthens families through various services. The Family Case Manager protects children and families, seeking reunification and permanent homes when appropriate.
This position is located in Lafayette, Indiana and serves Tippecanoe County.
Salary
The base salary begins at $47,320.00 and may increase based on education and experience.
Responsibilities
Investigate reported incidents of child abuse or neglect, determine substantiation, and recommend disposition to Juvenile Court or County Director.
Assess risk for additional harm, including imminent danger, and remove children from families if necessary.
Conduct needs assessments to determine treatment options for families.
Prepare pre‑dispositional and progress reports, maintain case files, and develop briefing reports for the community child‑protection team.
Develop formal adjustment plans with families to divert children from the juvenile justice system.
Create case plans and discharge/transition programs to promote self‑sufficiency and permanent homes.
Monitor efficacy of treatment programs and providers in relation to case plans.
Accept on‑call responsibility as needed for inquiries and investigations.
Conduct home studies and family histories and recommend placement for adoption.
Visit children in out‑of‑home placements to coordinate reunification, adoption, or independent living.
Maintain data to evaluate trends in family and child needs.
Credentials
Bachelor’s degree, or
Associate degree with at least two (2) years human services experience, or
30 college credit hours with at least three (3) years human services experience, or
A minimum of four (4) years human services experience.
Additional Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of social‑work principles and casework practices.
Thorough knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and guidelines affecting child‑protection services.
Ability to coordinate work among related social‑services programs.
Strong investigative and interview skills with alleged victims and perpetrators.
Ability to formulate and monitor project guidelines or treatment plans.
Ability to prepare clear, accurate reports.
Cultural competency with diverse families.
Experience with children who have special needs and ability to work with foster families.
Sound judgment during crisis situations involving aggressive adults.
Ability to perform essential functions with or without accommodation.
Valid driver’s license.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role may include supervisory duties based on agency needs.
