Position summary Goodwill’s Dormitory program provides transitional housing and services to veterans experiencing homelessness. Case management services focus on the desired housing goal of the veteran and interventions to meet this goal including housing search, vocational/employment services and benefits assistance to help veterans’ transition to independence. Responsible for providing oversight of dorm activities for all dorm residents during second shift. Provides assigned case management duties including intakes and ISP updates, educational group facilitation such as peer support and budgeting skills. Responsible for identifying safety, health, and general property maintenance issues in the dormitory area.
Minimum requirements Education: Bachelor’s degree in social services or related field. Licensed Social Worker preferred
Experience: Minimum of 1-year paid experience in social services or related field. Experience working in Military Veterans preferred.
Knowledge: Knowledge of case management techniques; familiarity with special needs of marginalized populations such as people experiencing homelessness; knowledge of local community services; ability to communicate effectively (oral and written); experience with computer software such as Microsoft Office suite and databases required.
Essential duties Carries out assigned case management duties
Conducts intake on veterans entering program
Provides orientation to dorm (policies-procedures) to all veterans entering program
Completes housing assessment tool (VI-SPDAT) on veterans for whom intake was completed
Become familiar and complete veterans’ Individualized Service Plan
Documents in Homeless Management System notes (encounter) relevant to each veteran’s ISP and activities
Enters at a minimum of one encounter note per veteran per shift
Provides housing search assistance as needed or requested
Provides individual budgeting assistance as needed or requested
Conducts educational group and/or individual training in budgeting, job search methodology, peer support
Oversees dorm dayroom computer activities, including timely reporting of computer problems, and maintaining adequate supplies
Monitors common dorm area and individual room upkeep including housekeeping and needed maintenance, and report discrepancies in a timely manner to the supervisor
Dispenses evening meals to veterans
Other duties as assigned
Periodical duties Training sessions or management meetings as scheduled
Occasional duties Prepares mandatory reports for the VA in the absence of the supervisor
Serves as backup for first shift case manager and/or weekend dorm technician
