Overview
Performs a wide range of clerical, receptionist, dispatching and/or admitting and discharge duties in support of the assigned patient care department.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or secretarial school.
Experience
One (1) year of administrative or clerical experience.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

Greet and admit patients upon arrival to the department. Accurately prepare patient identification bands and name tags.
Welcome visitors and respond to requests for assistance or information. Assist with delivering items to patient rooms.
Collect department mail and distribute appropriately.
Communicate transfer information when a patient is transferred to another facility.
Maintain stock levels of office supplies.
Perform clerical admission and discharge functions.
Schedule follow-up appointments as requested by physicians.
Arrange transportation for patients as necessary.
Organize and maintain patient and department records to ensure accurate documentation.
Fax copies of patient charts as needed for arranging transfers or follow-up care.
Coordinate and facilitate ongoing intra- and interdepartmental communication to ensure efficient operations.
Communicate promptly with other departments regarding patient status (admitted, discharged, inter-hospital transfer, or expired) and share unit needs intra-departmentally.
Answer telephone courteously and promptly, identify self and department, and forward calls as appropriate.
Respond to patient call bells in a courteous and timely manner and dispatch appropriate personnel.
Provide requested information about patient or department routines in accordance with the hospital’s Release of Patient Information policy.
Coordinate transportation of patients as needed and ensure timely movement between departments.
Phone in consults to other services as required.
Maintain communication with other patient care departments to ensure patient care needs are met.
