Position Title: Summer Health Care Manager (RN)

Department: Camp Arnold

Status: Temporary/Seasonal, Exempt

Pay: $800/week plus room and board (lodging and food)

Scope
• Be at the nurse’s station before and after meals, at the campfire, and return to the nurse’s station after the campfire.

• Health Care Manager is available at the nurse’s station during clinic hours determined by the camp schedule. The schedule is assigned in conjunction with the camp schedule and the Assistant Camp Administrator.

Qualifications

Currently licensed as an RN or LPN in the state of Washington.

Current certification in First‑Aid and CPR.

General Duties

Attend and participate in evening programs and spiritual activities.

Assist with “break day” duties as scheduled.

Maintain a standard of cleanliness in personal grooming and in living quarters.

Assist with the clean‑up of the entire camp at the end of each session and at summer conclusion.

Complete a mid‑summer and an end‑of‑summer brief.

Assist with other duties as assigned.

Specific Duties

During pre‑camp training, discuss health and safety procedures, precautions, and routines with staff.

Report all admissions to the Health Center to the Program Director.

Establish a special time of day for “sick‑call” in consultation with the Camp Administrator – following meals.

Guide counselors on noting and reporting illness, injury, or unsafe practices and conditions that could contribute to camper or staff accidents. Also, report campers’ dietary habits such as failure to eat a variety of foods, rapid weight changes, and symptoms of disturbance including restless sleep, nail biting, thumb sucking, bed wetting, withdrawal, or homesickness.

Check the living quarters and camp for health and safety conditions daily.

Administer all medications and treatments according to physician’s order and keep records of all such treatment.

Prepare first‑aid kits for emergency use for all counselors on hikes, outpost camps, and trips and instruct counselors in current first‑aid methods. All such treatments must be reported back to the nurse for inclusion with reports.

Make a physical check of campers upon arrival at camp and review all health records, discussing particular items with the concerned counselors.

Be responsible for any drugs, medications, and first‑aid kits brought to camp by campers or staff and use as directed by the physician of the camper/staff (according to prescription).

Maintain a daily treatment log and insurance forms as required.

In addition to the “Close of Camp” evaluation, create a written report to include: equipment inventory, requisition for next summer, treatment records of campers and staff, infirmary and hospital admissions, visits to the doctor, recommendations for the health department and medical examination records, and records for insurance companies.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.

Ability to grasp, push, pull objects, and reach overhead.

Ability to operate a telephone.

Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.

Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

Ability to access and produce information from a computer.

Ability to understand written information.

Retirement Plans: Employer‑funded Money Purchase Pension Plan (Defined Contribution Plan) 50% vested at 5 years eligible service time, employee‑funded voluntary 403(b) options.

Parental Leave: One week (5 business days) of paid leave at the employee’s normal rate of pay for births, adoptions and foster placements.

Sick Leave: 12 days annually accruing from day one, eligible for use after 3 months’ service time.

Paid Vacation: 2 weeks annually for non‑exempt positions, 4 weeks annually for exempt positions; accruing from day one; accrued vacation eligible for use after 6 months’ service time.

Paid Holidays: 13 designated holidays plus 1 floating holiday per year.
