Job Description This is a 8 months part-time contract position until 30 June 2026.
Applicants must be a member of the LGBTIQA+ community and of refugee background with a minimum experience of 2 years working directly with LGBTIQA+ community.
The LGBTIQA+ Case Manager position provides a crucial role in providing comprehensive support and advocacy tailored to the needs of individuals fleeing persecution due to their sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression or intersex status. This role involves navigating complex legal and social systems to ensure access to essential services such as housing, healthcare, legal assistance, and psychosocial support. The position aims to empower individuals to rebuild their lives with dignity and a renewed sense of belonging. The position will provide Initial intake and needs assessment and holistic case management services to LGBTIQA+ individuals from refugee backgrounds, ensuring their comprehensive needs are addressed. This will include the facilitation to access essential services within the settlement, community, healthcare, legal, and social service systems.
The role will facilitate empowerment through culturally sensitive approaches that promote self-sufficiency, integration, and resilience. The position will pursue policy advocacy opportunities and facilitate voices of lived experience and support resource development relevant to LGBTIQA+ people from refugee backgrounds and those working with them.
Responsibilities Include:
Deliver high quality and culturally appropriate case management to the LGBTIQA+ community.
Deliver a holistic service, through the documentation of case management plans that supports clients using a strength -based approach with the focus to build capacity and encourage independence.
Facilitate client referrals pathways to improve safety and sustain engagement with relevant support systems.
Facilitate of group workshops in safe and caring environment.
Contribute to SETS program development and delivery for the LGBTIQA+ community in accordance with CORE Community Services policies.
Provide culturally sensitive support and information to assist with the effective engagement with clients and their support systems.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with key internal and external partners, agencies and networks. Actively participate in appropriate groups and networking activities.
Maintain appropriate documentation and data collection in relation to client’s case management records.
Desired Skills and Experience Selection Criteria
Applicants must be a member of the LGBTIQA+ community and of refugee background with a minimum experience of 2 years working directly with LGBTIQA+ community.
Minimum of 2 years of direct experience in Social Work, Case Management, refugee services, or related fields, with LGBTIQA+ individuals and/or refugee communities.
Demonstrate a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by LGBTIQA+ individuals and communities who have refugee backgrounds, including cultural, legal, and social barriers as well as relevant support networks.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrated strong advocacy skills to represent clients' needs within various systems, including social services, healthcare, and legal settings. Previous involvement in advocacy efforts or community organizing related to LGBTIQA+ rights and refugee issues.
Ability to assess client needs, develop comprehensive case plans, and monitor progress towards goals.
Demonstrated organisational skills to manage caseload effectively and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Lived experience as a person seeking sanctuary because of their diverse Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Gender Expression, and Sex Characteristics. (SOGIESC)
Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team within a multicultural environment.
Well - developed negotiation, advocacy, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills.
Strong administrative, organisational, time management and presentation skills.
Knowledge and understanding of the barriers for people who are culturally and linguistically disadvantaged.
Excellent written and verbal communication, internal and external to the organisation and computer literate.
Successful completion of Australian Police Checks and Working with Children Check .
