Job Summary and Qualifications
The POC Coordinator is responsible for the facility Point-of-Care testing under the direction of the department administrative director and medical directors to meet patient care and regulatory agency requirements. This position will work with facility and department leaders to implement new programs, monitor performance, collect and evaluate performance data, develop corrective action plans, and assist in the training and education of personnel regarding Point-of-Care activities. You will also be responsible for performing technical duties within the laboratory department as required.
- Work heavily with information system computer functions relative to job duties.
- Proficient in all technical areas within the Laboratory Department including but limited to Blood Bank.
- Develop policies and procedure as needed for POC.
- Ensure work is organized and performed according to section procedure manual so that other personnel can follow workflow.
- Assure that proficiency testing samples are analyzed according to instructions and are completed within the allowable time frame.
- Review proficiency testing and/or quality assurance results and work with departments to develop corrective action plans, where indicated.
- Consistently complete all required records/documentation pertaining to quality assurance and/or point-of-care testing records.
- Demonstrate the ability to use good judgment and independent thinking in the correlation and interpretation of patient results.
- Monitor accreditation agency licensure status and assist department director in preparing licensure and renewal paperwork (CAP, CLIA, etc.).
- Assist Laboratory Management Team and Medical Directors in reviewing performance data and identifying corrective actions.
- Assure that equipment is operated correctly and periodic maintenance is performed according to schedule and accreditation requirements.
- Monitor the utilization of point-of-care reagents and supplies appropriately.
Education:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science Required.
- 2-5 years of clinical lab experience Required.
- 1-3 years of point of care testing - Required.
