JOB SUMMARY
The Patient Care Coordinator completes patient care and Appointment Coordinator functions in addition to assisting a designated area with setting goals and ensuring best practice. This individual may assist with referral dispositions to ensure provider referrals are handled appropriately. The Patient Care Coordinator will provide day-to-day coordination of a specific area to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of the operational functions of the area.
For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.
Minimum Required: Successful completion of post-secondary courses in Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, or Pharmacology - department specific.
Preferred/Optional: Diploma or Associate degree as a Medical Assistant or Diploma as a Health Unit Coordinator.
Minimum Required: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Keyboard, computer, and telephone proficiency.
Preferred/Optional: Experience with customer service. Experience as a Medical Assistant, Appointment Coordinator, or Health Unit Coordinator.
The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.
Minimum Required: None
Preferred/Optional: Medical Assistant Certification (CMA) awarded by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) awarded by the American Medical Technologists (AMT); or Medical Assistant certified (NCMA) awarded by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) recognition will be grandfathered for staff hired prior to 2/15/07, provided certification was obtained by 10/1/07.
