POSITION TITLE: On-Call Crisis Case Manager

REPORTS TO: Crisis Services Manager

DIRECT REPORTS: None

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt; on-call; employment-at-will position.

SCHEDULE: The position is on-call during recurring, pre-determined hours. Additional shifts may be available on a voluntary basis.

PURPOSE: The Crisis Case Manager supports individuals experiencing mental health crises in community settings as part of a mobile crisis response team, which includes licensed therapists, case managers, and peer support specialists. This role provides timely intervention, stabilization, and connection to appropriate care, either through Kanza’s wraparound services or higher levels of care, such as psychiatric hospitalization. Typical settings include a Kanza office, local hospitals, law enforcement offices, schools, or home settings.

Compensation Information
The On-Call Crisis Case Manager will receive an hourly on-call rate, which is:

$5.00/hour for scheduled on-call hours Monday 8:00 am - Friday 4:00 pm.

$10.00/hour for scheduled on-call hours Friday 4:00 pm - Monday 8:00 am.

$15.00/hour for on-call hours during designated holidays (actual and observed).

They will receive their regular hourly rate for active crisis work during scheduled shifts and time-and-a-half for extra shifts outside regular hours.

Eligible Benefits

Accrual of PTO (sick and vacation) if meeting minimum weekly hours over specified periods.

Holiday pay only if on-call for that shift.

Shift Requirements

Minimum of 20 on-call hours per pay period.

May be contacted to cover shifts but not required to accept.

Essential Job Functions

Provide crisis stabilization and observation.

Manage crises using positive, therapeutic approaches, assessing triggers and risks.

Follow protocols for suicide precautions, welfare checks, detox, and treatment models.

Respond calmly and de-escalate crises non-physically; facilitate crisis debriefings.

Collaborate with medical and law enforcement while maintaining confidentiality.

Work with multidisciplinary teams including therapists, peer specialists, and law enforcement.

Assist with admissions, discharges, safety checks, and transportation.

Follow safety guidelines and provide training in supportive settings.

Complete all documentation accurately and timely.

Maintain punctuality, professionalism, and effective communication.

Ensure compliance with policies and maintain training requirements.

Additional duties may be assigned to cover absences or workload balancing.

Requirements
Training Requirements

One week of training before starting, including orientation and on-the-job training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Bachelor’s degree in human services or equivalent experience.

Must be at least 21, proficient in English, and able to pass background/drug screening.

Experience with SMI, SED, or SUD preferred.

Proficient with computers and electronic health records.

Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Valid driver’s license and safe driving record required.

Physical Demands

Prolonged standing or sitting, moving objects up to 10 lbs, repetitive motions, effective communication, outdoor exposure, and vehicle operation.

Frequent travel within service region.

Work Environment
Includes office, community, and home settings; exposure to low socio-economic environments and potentially aggressive situations.
