The Mental Health Clinician - LADC is an integral part of the Addiction Treatment Center (ATC) at The University of Vermont Medical Center. The ATC provides a range of evidence-based outpatient services to people with primary substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions, including individual counseling, intensive group-based therapy, psychiatric assessment, and medication management.
Job Description The Mental Health Clinician - LADC works as part of a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, psychiatrists, nurses, and peers to support patients in their recovery. The main responsibilities of the Mental Health Clinician - LADC include but are not limited to:
Evaluating new patients and diagnosing substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders in accordance with the DSM and ICD
Assessing for appropriate level of care using ASAM criteria
Providing direct patient care, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy
Consulting with primary care and other referring providers in the community
Presenting cases at weekly clinical rounds
Coordinating clinical services with other internal and external providers, including the ED, crisis, inpatient medicine, and psychiatry, outpatient counselors, primary care providers, and peer support services
Formulating the plan of care, updating the plan as needed, and coordinating treatment for the patient while in the program
Continued care and discharge planning, including scheduling appointments with addiction, mental health, medical, and peer support providers to support individuals in maintaining long-term sobriety
Timely and accurate documentation
Education Master’s degree in a behavioral health or related field required
Active Drug and Alcohol Counselor License (LADC) in the State of Vermont required
Active additional licensure as either a clinical social worker or clinical mental health counselor in the State of Vermont strongly preferred
Training or certification may be required in a specific area: case management, group therapy, cognitive therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, or eye movement desensitization and reprocessing
Experience At least 3 years direct clinical experience post-licensure providing individual, family, and group psychotherapy
Experience with co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders and complex diagnostic presentations
Experience working with a multidisciplinary team
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Familiarity with psychotropic medications and their role in treatment
Training and experience in CBT/DBT approaches to mental health symptom reduction or alleviation
Experience working with individuals at different stages of change and training in motivational interviewing
Training in acute crisis intervention
Training in suicide risk assessment and symptom reduction
