Definition Under the direction of the Program Manager, the incumbent works in conjunction with AOD counselors to screen and assess clients\' initial and ongoing need for treatment. The incumbent will also conduct mental health screenings, provide clinical support to alcohol and drug counselors on clients\' mental health issues, promote higher levels of wellness, stability, and quality of life, assist in the prevention of acute psychiatric episodes or substance abuse relapses, and help clients to lessen the debilitating symptoms of mental illness and substance abuse.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. Facilitate a range of trauma-informed group services with residents who have experienced various traumas and health challenges. Provide therapeutic, case management, and crisis intervention services to residents and families. Communicate with diverse populations and exercise independent judgment. Provide crisis intervention during working hours and as needed after work hours.
Communicate with other involved parties and agencies on a regular basis, including other resources available to residents. Analyze and provide advocacy and services, such as needed emergency medical care or special needs programming. Support AOD counselors with co-occurring client caseloads, training in co-occurring services, appropriate assessments and referrals. Ensure flexibility of scheduling and crisis intervention services to meet client needs.
Maintain client case files in accordance with contractual obligations and agency standards, including electronic medical records in the database. Assist with implementing contractual and programmatic components. Complete all required case file documentation in a timely manner. Ensure proper documentation as required by DHCS, Medi-Cal, the United States Court System, and San Diego County.
Participate in team meetings, trainings, individual supervision, and clinical group supervision. Attend agency trainings, staff meetings, quality assurance activities, and trainings to meet Medi-Cal standards (ASAM trainings, Motivational Interviewing, Evidence-Based Practice).
Retain an AMFT/ASW/APCC intern number or a licensed license (LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC) with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Adhere to agency and contract confidentiality, HIPAA, and mandated reporting policies. Other duties as assigned by the Program Manager.
Qualifications and Skills Knowledge of and Ability to:
Able to work with potentially homeless, justice-involved, and CWS-involved individuals.
Able to work with diverse populations, people of all backgrounds, cultures, and walks of life.
Experience in group, individual, and family counseling.
Experience in outreach, domestic violence, community education and development, advocacy, and case management.
Physical Qualifications:
Experience working in a residential setting.
Willing to develop or possess working knowledge of trauma-informed care and dual diagnosis treatment.
Experience in trauma and dual diagnosis programs preferred.
Motivated to take on additional community involvement projects and solve problems.
Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with multiple cases.
Empathetic and supportive with mentorship and leadership skills.
Education/Experience/Certification M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), Social Work (SW), or Professional Clinical Counselor (PCC) required.
Active registration as an associate or licensed clinician with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
Related work experience with the justice system, substance abuse and/or immigrant populations preferred.
Bilingual Spanish-English preferred.
First Aid and CPR Certification preferred.
Supervision hours provided by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).

Health Status Must have a physical examination, TB clearance and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC, as well as immunization records for influenza, pertussis and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.
Physical and Mental Demands Physical Demands: Standing, walking, and sitting; talking or hearing; using hands to finger, handle or feel; reaching with arms; occasional stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching or crawling; lifting up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, depth, color perception, and focus adjustment.
Mental Demands: Reading, writing, problem solving, interpreting people and situations, basic math, learning new information, and working under deadlines while interacting with MAAC staff and clients.
Background Clearance All positions are subject to background/education checks, DMV checks, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically thereafter as required by funding sources. California Start law requires background checks for licensed childcare facility workers who are not clients; must have or obtain a current criminal background check clearance and related forms prior to first day of employment.
Transportation Must have and maintain a valid California Driver’s License, daily use of a personal insured vehicle, and an acceptable driving record. Incumbents will be enrolled in the California DMV Pull Program.
