Responsibilities Assist the Director of Nursing Services in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing day-to-day functions of the nursing service department in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long term care facility.
Participate in developing, maintaining, and updating written policies and procedures that govern day-to-day nursing service operations.
Facilitate resolution of issues and concerns related to resident/patient care, including family issues.
Ensure reference materials (e.g., PDRs, regulations, professional standards of practice) at nurses' stations are current; recommend written materials to the Director to support resident care.
Keep the Nursing Service Procedures Manual current and reflective of day-to-day nursing care procedures.
Participate in development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility's quality assurance program for the nursing service department.
Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
Make nursing diagnoses that serve as the basis for the delivery of care; make daily rounds to ensure nursing service personnel perform in accordance with acceptable nursing standards and report findings to the Director.
Perform nursing assessments regarding residents' health status; develop and implement plans of care based on assessment; inform the Director when physician visits are not timely.
Review nurses' notes to ensure they are informative, reflect residents' responses to care, and align with residents' wishes; authorize the use of restraints when necessary and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Provide health education to patients and families.
Assist the In-service Director/Educator in developing annual facility in-service training programs (e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, Infection Control).
Participate in the development of preliminary and comprehensive assessments of nursing needs; assist with planning, scheduling, and revising the MDS, including RAPs and Triggers.
Develop resident care plans (preliminary and comprehensive) that identify problems/needs, outline care to be given, goals, and responsible professionals; encourage resident and family participation in plan development and review.
Ensure all personnel involved in resident care are aware of and refer to the resident’s care plan prior to daily care; foster collaboration with all services involved in the care plan to achieve a team approach.
Participate in quality assurance activities and adhere to scope of practice limitations based on qualifications.
Complete required forms and documents in accordance with company policy and state/federal regulations; perform general nursing duties in emergencies or staffing shortages.
Participate in the preparation and planning of the nursing service department's budget and submit for director review/approval.
Maintain the confidentiality of resident care information, including protected health information.
Supervisory Requirements This position assists with the overall supervision of the nursing staff.
Qualification Education and/or Experience: Graduation from an Accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. Must be in good standing with the State Board of Nursing and maintain required continuing education/licensing. 1-3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
Language Skills: Ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions, accept constructive criticism; tactful interaction with personnel, residents, families, visitors, government agencies, and the public.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite; PCC knowledge preferred; must maintain required continuing education/licensing and stay in good standing with the State Board of Nursing.
Physical Demands Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds; prolonged desk/laptop use; regular sitting, standing, walking, and communication; frequent use of office equipment (copier/scanner/fax, telephone, calculator); travel by auto or airline may be required.
