It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description Of Work
Salary Range: $35,984-$62,971.
Employees in this class carry a caseload of inmates, which involves supportive counseling, conducting assessments, developing case plans, answering and following up on inmate questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities / Management Preferences
Working knowledge of techniques of supportive counseling and interviewing.
Working knowledge of services available to individuals from the community and other public and private programs.
Necessary Special Qualification
Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.

Full-time Position
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC07 . State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
Minimum Education and Experience
Associate’s degree in criminal justice, human services, recreation or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution; or high school or GED diploma and two years of custody experience within the North Carolina Department of Public Safety; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
