The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Medicaid Health and Resource Branch. This position is responsible for researching, developing, and implementing a complex care program and serves as the lead case manager. The position reports directly to the Executive Director, Medicaid and Health Services Branch. It will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of the complex care management initiative with support from MHSB and Division leadership. The population served will include individuals with significantly complex medical conditions and/or social-economic or mental health co-morbidities, and the role requires managing multiple highly complex cases simultaneously.
Responsibilities Research, develop, and implement a complex care program as the lead case manager.
Design, develop, and implement the complex care management initiative with support from MHSB and Division leadership.
Manage multiple highly complex cases concurrently, focusing on individuals with significant medical, social-economic, or mental health co-morbidities.
Qualifications Knowledge of the principles of case management.
Knowledge of the principles and importance of case documentation.
Knowledge of program development and evaluation.
Knowledge of Medicaid and/or healthcare programs.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
Bachelor’s degree in health care, human services, business, or public administration.
Four years’ experience in case management, including complex cases.
Other combinations of education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Additional Information This position may be eligible for partial telework within the state of Montana. Specific conditions will be provided by the supervisor and must adhere to state policy.
This position may be eligible for a statutory $1.00 an hour base pay increase effective July 1, 2026.
This position is open until filled with frequent screening of applicants.

Training Assignment: This agency may use a training assignment. Employees in training assignments may be paid below the base pay established by the agency pay rules. Conditions of the training assignment will be stated in writing at the time of hire.
Salary & Benefits Salary: 36.50 hourly. Telework eligibility: Telework eligible (full-time telework is not available; telework schedule must be supervisor approved). Benefits package eligibility: Health Insurance, Paid Leave & Holidays, Retirement Plan.
