This role is responsible for developing, organizing, and leading a comprehensive activity program tailored to meet the cognitive, emotional, and social needs of residents in the Affinity Care Unit. The Activities Coordinator will also play a key role in fostering a supportive, engaging, and comforting environment that promotes dignity, purpose, and joy for each resident.

Responsibilities

Plan and coordinate a structured activity program designed specifically for dementia residents, incorporating daily routines, therapeutic recreation, and individualized engagement opportunities.

Facilitate group and one-on-one activities such as music, art, sensory experiences, exercise, reminiscing sessions, and life enrichment events that align with residents’ interests and abilities.

Adapt activities to meet the changing physical and cognitive abilities of each resident, ensuring all participants can engage at their comfort level.

Provide emotional and social support by building trusting relationships with residents, offering companionship, and encouraging participation and self-expression.

Collaborate with nursing and social services teams to support residents’ care plans, monitor changes in behavior or mood, and communicate updates effectively.

Maintain accurate documentation of resident participation, activity attendance, and behavioral observations as required.

Assist in creating a positive, home-like atmosphere that supports the emotional well-being and dignity of all residents in the Affinity Care Unit.

Contribute to special events and family involvement activities, promoting community engagement within the unit.

Qualifications

Background in activities coordination, recreation therapy, or social work (strongly preferred).

Excellent communication, creativity, and interpersonal skills.

Compassionate, patient, and adaptable when working with individuals experiencing memory loss.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary care team.
