The Senior Director, Clinical position is a casual/Per-Diem physician role that plays a pivotal part in the delivery and management of complex, multi-workstream projects, particularly within patient throughput, care variation, and provider enterprise solutioning. This executive role is designed with flexibility in mind, offering casual part-time hours that are determined by project needs. The Senior Director is expected to leverage strategic insight, relationship-building skills, and a keen sense for opportunity to further the organization’s mission. This position is an integral part of the practice leadership team, with responsibilities that include developing client relationships, supporting practice methodologies, and advancing practice development initiatives. The role also involves participating in the development of growth strategies, supporting overall practice advancement, and fostering a positive team culture. 

This position is per‑diem or as‑needed schedule between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM in your local time zone.

This will be on the job training and the hours during training will be during normal business hours

    

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide clinical consultation and guidance to clients and project teams on matters relating to patient throughput, care variation, and provider enterprise issues regarding protocols, and best practices.
  • Build consensus among client stakeholders who are essential to the successful implementation of identified solutions.
  • Participate in virtual or in-person meetings to discuss internal or client-facing clinical strategies, conduct case reviews, or work on quality improvement initiatives aimed at achieving client contractual outcomes, both in terms of financial and quality performance. 
  • Review and evaluate medical documents, case files, and clinical data as needed to support client engagements to meet contractual client outcomes. 
  • Assist with the development and review of clinical protocols, guidelines, and educational materials to ensure alignment with best practices, practice development and client needs.
  • Offer expert opinions on complex clinical scenarios and support the decision-making processes within client teams and projects.
  • Remain current with industry trends, treatment guidelines, and regulatory requirements relevant to assigned projects and client engagements.
  • Communicate effectively and accurately, both in writing and verbally, with potential clients, current clients, and Optum team members. 
  • Demonstrate strong relationship management skills and the ability to handle challenging interpersonal situations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Active, unrestricted medical license in the applicable state(s).
  • Healthcare experience in payer and / or provider settings 
  • Consulting hours and assignments may vary from week to week; advanced notice will be provided when possible.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 25%25 of the time (Domestic) in a given week, as needed. 
  • Ability to work on a per diem or as needed schedule between the hours of 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM in your local time zone.

     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with consulting firms, including engagement leadership, client relationship management, and business development.
  • Experience mentoring and developing team members.
  • Background in healthcare consulting.

   

Telecommuting Requirements:

  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy.
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service.

  • Familiarity with a variety of problem-solving approaches and frameworks.
  • Ability to drill down to the root cause of issues and demonstrate creativity in problem solving.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a remote or hybrid environment.

The hourly pay for this role will range from $96.35 - $165.14 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
