Job Summary
Reporting to senior leadership, the role supports the long-term success of the MGB CDI program by leading and delivering provider education and training in clinical documentation integrity across MGB. Will serve as a subject matter expert in clinical documentation, coding, and quality reporting. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating enterprise-wide CDI education programs that support accurate, complete, and compliant clinical documentation. This role develops and promotes educational initiatives to drive clinical and operational excellence and collaborates with the CDI Medical Director to enhance provider education across MGB. This role ensures that all stakeholders understand the importance of accurate and complete clinical documentation and supports quality care, regulatory compliance, and optimal coding and reimbursement. This role will develop and implement CDI provider education across MGB entities and will partner with local quality teams and leadership to strengthen documentation integrity, quality outcomes, and performance within the OCMO.
Essential Functions
-Develop and implement both formal and informal CDI educational initiatives for MGB.
-Identify CDI knowledge gaps and provide education and follow-up remediation.
-Analyze data to identify areas where additional education would benefit providers, CDI team members, or other clinicians.
-Act as a primary resource, providing timely and comprehensive responses to CDI inquiries in both verbal and written formats.
-Collaborate with senior CDI leadership to onboard CDI team members.
-Conduct individual and large group educational sessions.
-Assist the CDI Medical Director and Physician Advisors with all provider and clinician-focused CDI education.
-Maintain professional competence and continuously monitor CDI industry initiatives and trends.
-Facilitate the ongoing review of CDI educational materials, documentation tip sheets, and other training programs/resources for relevance and compliance.
-Use data to develop, implement, and work with key stakeholders to effectively deliver education to providers across MGB.
-Understand the nuances of physician onboarding and education, and develop strategies for the content, delivery methodology, frequency, and venue for new trainees and existing faculty.
-Review CDI monthly metrics in Tableau as well as vendor metrics to understand common query content, the disagreement topics, and develop education informed by this ongoing analysis.
Education
Associate's Degree Nursing required, Master's Degree Nursing preferred
Licenses and Credentials
- Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Licensure required
- Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist [CCDS] preferred
Experience
- 5-7 years of Clinical Documentation Improvement experience required
- 5-7 years of Acute Medical/Surgical Care experience required
- 2-3 years of Educator experience with strong understanding of CDI and coding regulations required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Experience in coding or healthcare compliance.
- Strong knowledge of clinical documentation standards, coding guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to assess and improve documentation practices.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with physicians, coders, and other staff.
- Proficiency in health information systems and electronic medical record platforms.
- Ability to provide education and training to clinical and administrative teams.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Certification in Clinical Documentation preferred.
- Fostering a culture of learning.
- Demonstrates competency in the teaching/learning process, organizational skills, and computer literacy.
- Ability to appreciate and understand site differences and work closely with the MGB CDI Physician Advisor team to address any and all opportunities.
- Subject matter expert in the MGB CDI Educational Initiatives.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and clinical reasoning skills.
