Description
The Triage Nurse serves as a critical liaison between patients and physicians within a physicians’ practice, assessing patient acuity, providing education, and supporting a patient‑first culture.

Responsibilities

Establish first‑time positive impressions and patient advocacy.

Triage all incoming calls and electronic messages, prioritizing and resolving, involving the provider as appropriate, and completing the communication cycle.

Document all communications in the electronic medical record.

Schedule patients for visits when telephone assessment indicates this.

Assist in obtaining appointments with specialists within Maryland.

Coordinate emergency and hospital transfers, including paperwork and telephone communications.

Administer medications and treatments in accordance with Nursing Standards and provider orders.

Provide education to patients and staff concerning clinical issues.

Assist in coordinating and monitoring clinical staff activities to ensure coverage and adherence to OSHA and CDC guidelines.

Assist in orientation of new staff members.

Perform other duties as assigned, including specific process improvement projects.

Administer intravenous and injectable medications to adult, geriatric, and wheelchair‑bound patients; demonstrate competency for age‑related responsibilities.

Maintain quality control during all aspects of patient care, ensuring exam rooms and equipment comply with OSHA and CDC guidelines.

Participate in departmental quality improvement activities.

For triage nurses in Immediate Care Clinics (ICC), float to other ICCs or departments.

Qualifications
Required

Graduate of an accredited RN program.

At least 3 years of experience in a hospital or outpatient setting.

Registered Nurse license issued by the State of Illinois, current.

CPR certification.

Preferred

BSN degree.

Specialty certification.

At least 5 years of experience in a hospital or outpatient setting.

Spanish speaking.
