Position Summary The Emergency Department Clinical Educator is an experienced clinician who supports the Adult and Transitional Care leadership team by providing educational support to staff, patients, and families. Collaborating with medical and hospital staff, the educator ensures multidisciplinary care of patients. Utilizing knowledge of healthcare educational needs and adult learning principles, the educator develops core curricula, plans programs, and oversees clinical practice for both new and existing staff. The role involves instructional responsibilities aimed at improving care quality, achieving positive clinical outcomes, customer satisfaction, and fostering a positive work environment. The educator also ensures compliance with Joint Commission (TJC) and Medicare/Medicaid standards, analyzing, directing, and facilitating nursing care in accordance with applicable standards, guidelines, and regulations. They assess and address educational needs of nursing staff and participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating quality improvement programs within the emergency department and organization-wide. Demonstrating commitment to the unit and organizational goals, the educator applies excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills to meet service and organizational objectives.
Essential Job Functions and Core Responsibilities Accountable to the Emergency Services Executive Director for overall performance.
Identify staff with specific expertise or training needs and develop growth opportunities.
Organize and facilitate annual updates on regulatory topics, skills training, and certifications such as BLS, ACLS, PALS, MAB, and MICN.
Develop systematic processes for assessing, developing, and evaluating staff to promote positive patient outcomes and experiences.
Demonstrate understanding of IRAISE values, mission, vision, policies, and procedures relevant to the Emergency Department.
Apply adult and pediatric learning principles in instructing, guiding, and evaluating staff learning, adapting to diverse age, developmental, and cultural needs.
Act as a clinical resource, demonstrating clinical expertise in ED monitoring devices such as defibrillators, hemodynamic monitoring, external pacemakers, Zoll hypothermia monitors, etc.
Maintain excellent communication and professional relationships with management, staff, physicians, patients, families, and the community.
Support a team-oriented, collaborative work environment and promote unity within the department.
Participate in ongoing education, literature review, clinical practice, and peer networking to maintain clinical expertise.
Assist with orientation and competency validation of new employees and participate in hospital committees as assigned.
Support Shared Governance and participate in quality improvement activities, policy review, and development of educational resources and modules.
Coordinate patient and community education programs as needed.
Promote problem-solving and critical thinking among staff.
Supervise and evaluate team members’ work performance and facilitate career development activities.
Support a safe, blame-free, and healing environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
Job Requirements Minimum Education (Required): Bachelor’s degree in nursing
Preferred Education: Master’s degree in nursing
Minimum Work Experience: 5 years recent RN experience in the ER
Licenses and Certifications Current RN licensure in California
ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications (must be maintained)
Management of Assaultive Behavior certification (can be obtained within 6 months of hire)
Additional preferred certifications include Emergency Nurse Certification, Critical Care Nursing Certification, and Mobile Intensive Care Nurse Certification
Additional Details Salary range: $109,774.08 - $144,078.48 annually, based on experience and organizational considerations.
