Duties
The Nurse Informaticist Registered Nurse (RN) exercises leadership in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of hardware and software applications integrated with the electronic health record (EHR) and associated programs / applications. The Informaticist collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at the facility and network. They work closely to establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of Veteran Affairs (VA) staff nationwide. The Informaticist is responsible for the documented outcomes at the program or service level. Program or service level outcomes must be broad and complex and can be demonstrated at any organizational level within a facility, Veterans Integrated Services Network (VISN), or Veterans Affairs Central Office (VACO), illustrating performance and leadership that benefit the facility.
Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to :
Works effectively with others, to initiate and lead interdisciplinary groups, and to establish relationships with professional and/or other health related groups within the community.
Contributes to the nursing profession through publication, membership on task forces, intramural or extramural committees, consulting, and development of media or scientific inquiry.
Demonstrates leadership and accomplishments in developing and implementing computerized programs to improve delivery of patient care and by proficiency in nursing administration.
Initiates change based on current concepts and findings from research and/or studies and use sound judgment in making decisions.
Responsible for overall planning, direction and support of clinical computer applications which cross departmental lines or which have hospital-wide impact.
Assesses the impact of computer programs on patient care and makes appropriate interventions.
Supports and enhances staff education.
Participates in activities to improve clinical, administrative, research and instructional skills.
Supports clinical research.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements :
English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless proficient in basic written and spoken English.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE; OR in certain bridge programs meeting VA guidance; OR for foreign graduates, current registration and education validation as appropriate.
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory or the District of Columbia. GNT exception may apply for temporary appointment while pursuing licensure.

Physical Requirements: Visual acuity, hearing, dexterity; ability to undertake long periods of walking, standing, bending, lifting; may be exposed to infectious materials and require protective clothing; may be exposed to combative patients. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements.
Preferred Experience :
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card from AHA or MTN.
1+ year of RN experience; 5 years RN clinical experience with 2-3 years in Informatics / Clinical Applications Coord.
Working knowledge of information systems and clinical applications.
Certification as Informatics RN-BC or CPHIMS.
Understanding of VA healthcare delivery, clinical information systems, and regulatory standards.
Experience with CPRS / VISTA EHR; Oracle Health experience.
