Nurses Make a Difference! The Delaware Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) offers a recruitment incentive program designed to attract highly qualified professionals. Newly hired Advanced Practice Nurses, Nurse Consultants, Nursing Supervisors, Compliance Nurses, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Certified Nursing Assistants receive quarterly installment bonuses that begin after the first quarter of employment. New employees accept a two‑year commitment to the State of Delaware in order to qualify for the incentive. Referral bonuses of $1,000 are available to current DHSS employees who refer qualified candidates in the same classifications. The program may be terminated by DHSS at any time.
Summary Statement The position works within the utilization management team to review authorizations for medical necessity in various mental health programs. Candidates should have experience with electronic health records, hold a strong understanding of mental health diagnosis and treatment options, and be capable of working independently as well as collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
Essential Functions
Provides or evaluates direct nursing care.
Develops, implements, and reviews nursing care plans.
Provides health care instruction and guidance to individuals, families, community groups, and/or nursing home facilities in the management of their health care needs.
Maintains an effective working relationship with other members of the treatment team.
Prepares and submits records, reports, evaluations, and forms.
Participates in and makes recommendations regarding quality assurance activities.
Job Requirements
At least two years' experience as a Registered Nurse in Psychiatric Nursing OR a Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing and at least one year experience as a Registered Nurse in Psychiatric Nursing OR a Master's degree or higher in Nursing.
Possession of a Delaware Registered Nurse license OR a multi‑state compact license.
Conditions of Hire
All new hires attend an in‑person, statewide mandatory New Employee Orientation on their first day of employment. The orientation is held at a designated location in either Kent or New Castle County. The position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. DHSS does not provide employment‑based sponsorship.
