DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Program Manager, the incumbent works in conjunction with AOD counselors to screen and assess clients’ initial and ongoing need for treatment. The incumbent will also conduct mental health screenings, provide clinical support to alcohol and drug counselors on clients’ mental health issues, promote higher levels of wellness, stability, and quality of life, assist in the prevention of acute psychiatric episodes or substance abuse relapses, and help clients to lessen the debilitating symptoms of mental illness and substance abuse.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitate a range of trauma-informed group services with residents who have experienced various traumas with serious illnesses, addictions, disabilities, pregnancy, sexual/mental/physical abuse, or neglect. Provide therapeutic, case management, and crisis intervention services to residents and families.
Communicate with other involved parties and agencies on a regular basis, including other resources available to residents. Analyze and provide advocacy and services, such as needed emergency medical care, or special needs programming.
Maintain client case files in accordance with contractual obligations and agency standards to include electronic medical records in database. Complete all required case file documentation in a timely and routine fashion.
Participate in team meetings, trainings, individual supervision, and clinical group supervision. Attend trainings required to meet Medi-Cal standards.
Retain Associate Marriage & Family Therapist (AMFT) or Associate Social Worker (ASW) intern number or Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT)/Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) license with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
Able to work with potentially homeless, justice involved, CWS involved, and mentally unstable individuals.
Able to work in a very diverse setting with people of all backgrounds, cultures, and sexual orientations.
Experience in the areas of group, individual, and family counseling.
Experience in outreach, domestic violence, community education and development, advocacy, and case management.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION
Minimum of one year working as a mental health clinician with youth and families.
Licensed or Registered Intern with a M.A. or M.S.W. in social work, psychology or related field required.
Bilingual Spanish-English preferred.
HEALTH STATUS
Must have a physical examination, TB clearance, and a drug screen by a doctor/clinic designated by MAAC as well as immunization records for influenza, pertussis, and measles as required by state and federal regulations prior to the first day of employment.
BACKGROUND CLEARANCE
All positions are subject to a background/education check, DMV check, NSOR, exclusion and debarment checks prior to hire and periodically throughout employment as required by various funding sources.
