Responsibilities The Revenue Utilization Review (RUR) Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is directly responsible for the oversight and leadership of staff and the department to accomplish business operations of the RUR team and the mission of the VA.
The RUR ANM provides leadership and supervision to the RUR staff nurses who validate service connection (SC) and special authority (SA) eligibility and make decisions regarding authorization retrieval by third-party payers (TPPs).
The ANM serves as a resource to the Program Support Assistants (PSAs) for retrieving authorizations and collaborating with staff nurses.
The RUR ANM demonstrates clinical and nurse leadership skills through communication, mentoring, and grade-appropriate critical thinking.
Responsibilities include contributing to a safe, healthy working environment; fostering a professional nursing environment; and encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve optimal program outcomes.
Lead and organize the RUR nursing program to ensure continuity of operations, peer accountability, organizational needs, and consistency in nursing practice; interpret CPAC RUR policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure staff compliance.
Contribute to the RUR program through process improvement initiatives and RQC processes; act as a competent clinical consultant to RUR staff, CPAC Leadership, and VA facilities regarding Revenue Utilization Review procedures.
Evaluate current practice and formulate outcomes for groups of nurses, PSAs, patients, and organizational processes; participate in goal setting and problem solving with other departments to enhance the RUR program.
Support software efficiencies to perform workload tasks and learn data analytics to track, monitor, and trend revenue recovery.
Counsel and train staff on current and new processes while monitoring staff efficiencies.
Work effectively in stressful situations and shift priorities based on organizational needs.
Provide supervision and administrative/clinical guidance; plan and assign work, schedules, leave, and performance evaluations for staff under direct supervision; operate with moderate supervision.
Participate in compensation of flexible work arrangements as applicable and maintain focus on patient-centered outcomes.
Qualifications Basic Requirements:
English Language Proficiency; proficiency in basic written and spoken English for direct patient care positions (per 38 U.S.C. 7403(f)).
Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by ACEN or CCNE.
Options for non-traditional paths include bridge programs, state licensure eligibility, and related qualifications as described (see VA Qualification Standards).
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registered nurse licensure in a U.S. state/territory/DC; exceptions for certain entry-steps or GNT status may apply as described in the qualification standard.
Other qualifications and notes include foreign nursing education considerations, degree equivalency validation, and references to VA Handbook 5005 and related guidelines.
Physical requirements include typical clinical duties and the ability to perform sedentary tasks and light activity as described in the job standard.
