Job Overview
The Medication Care Manager is responsible for ensuring high‑quality care by safely administering medication and treatments, documenting all medication administration, and providing resident care while adhering to federal, state/provincial, local laws, regulations, and Sunrise Senior Living policies.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Provide medication and treatments in a safe, organized manner.

Review, read, and initial the electronic health record for pertinent resident information.

Receive medication updates from the Resident Care Director (RCD) or Wellness Nurse.

Administer, assist with, and observe medications using the medication administration record and the Six Rights of Medication Pass.

Ensure medications are passed according to the prescribed times and use the mobile med cart.

Document and initial each medication given, including refusals or missed doses.

Maintain confidentiality of all resident medication information.

Report any resident concerns or unavailable medications to the RCD or Wellness Nurse.

Restock the medication cart after all medication passes.

Assist in checking medication regardless of the packaging system.

Assess the need for “as needed” medication and report appropriately to a supervisor.

Count all narcotics each shift with another Medication Care Manager or Lead Care Manager and report discrepancies.

Maintain and clean the medication and treatment carts for neatness and availability, removing expired medications.

Follow the refill process and notify the RCD or Wellness Nurse if a new prescription is required.

Help residents maintain independence while promoting dignity and physical safety according to Sunrise Principles of Service.

Show empathy and respond to each resident with understanding of their unique communication patterns and needs.

Practice routine hygiene, cleanliness, and health precautions.

Resident Care Communications

Notify the RCD of any resident or family concerns.

Attend and actively participate in daily Cross Over meetings facilitated by the Lead Care Manager.

Contribute to the development of Individualized Service Plans (ISP).

Risk Management and General Safety

Partner with the community team to ensure compliance with national and provincial occupational health and safety regulations.

Use PPE, fire extinguishers, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Lockout‑Tagout procedures.

Report all accidents, incidents, unsafe conditions, and hazards immediately.

Ensure all cords, carts, and equipment are kept out of the way and comply with fire codes.

Follow infection control techniques and proper disposal of bio‑hazard containers.

Report occupational exposures to blood, bodily fluids, infectious materials, sharp sticks, and hazardous chemicals immediately.

Ensure oxygen tanks are stored safely and regularly monitored.

Training and Team Success

Participate as a team member and commit to achieving team goals.

Demonstrate the Team Member Credo in daily interactions.

Serve residents and guests in alignment with Sunrise Principles of Service.

Engage in company engagement programs and training requirements.

Attend scheduled meetings, training sessions, and required state/provincial courses.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required (may be accepted per state/provincial regulations).

Must maintain the following certifications: CPR and First Aid.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Prior experience working with seniors preferred.

Desire to serve and care for seniors.

Drivers of Sunrise vehicles must sign the Driver Job Description and understand safety and regulatory compliance.
