Job Purpose
This position involves performing various tasks, including but not limited to, consistent follow-up on student concerns, student wellness, and student communication. This position manages student requests for extenuating circumstances, conducts housing, wellness, and hospital visits, and contacts families on an as-needed basis related to student wellness and concerns. The incumbent typically works with a high degree of independence and uses initiative to conduct regular assignments following established policies and procedures. Additionally, the incumbent will provide advocacy services to students impacted by interpersonal violence. This position reports to the Director of Student Services within the Student Affairs Division.

Nature And Scope
Internal contacts generally include administrators, faculty, students, and staff. External contacts include vendors, consultants, visitors, and the general public.
Principal Accountabilities
Address student requests and follow up or advocate for them with professors for support
Respond to student requests and investigate the integrity of each request by requesting and reviewing documentation, and follow up with the appropriate actions to assist the student
Conduct regular in-person visits with students or conduct classroom visits to monitor student progress
Work with students and professors to put plans in place for student success
Listen to students, evaluate, and investigate the integrity of the concern(s), and adjust to improve student outcomes
Record students' progress and interactions, including charting, home visits, hospital visits, family communication, and professor communication
Follow up with closed cases to ensure student success
Visit students who are hospitalized at Howard University Hospital
Conduct wellness checks in residence halls
Serve as a consultant related to health, wellness, and safety topics of interpersonal violence prevention. This function includes sexual assault and harassment, dating/domestic violence, and stalking. Programming will involve students, faculty, and staff. Programming should be evidence-informed and campus-specific to prevent violence.
Implement public-health oriented, evidence-informed interventions and programming to promote a campus community environment that seeks to decrease and eliminate interpersonal violence.
Provide advocacy services and interventions for students impacted by interpersonal violence and inform the Director of Student Services of standard updates and necessary policy and procedural adjustments that enhance the objectives of student welfare.
Refer students to the correct Howard University offices, including but not limited to Counseling Services, Department Chairs, and Financial Aid.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field from an accredited college/university
2 - 4 years of experience providing student support
Knowledge of standard office administrative practices and procedures
Excellent communication, writing, organization, and planning skills
Proficient computer skills and in-depth knowledge of relevant software
Information gathering and monitoring skills
Attention to detail, meets deadlines
Strong interpersonal skills to work with students in crisis
Sound judgment, problem analysis, problem solving, and decision-making skills
