Intensive Case Manager – Homeless Advocacy Project (HAP)
The Justice & Diversity Center of The Bar Association of San Francisco (JDC) has an exciting opportunity for an Intensive Case Manager position at our Homeless Advocacy Project (HAP). HAP works with tenants facing unlawful detainers (evictions), prioritizing clients who have mental and/or physical disabilities, and tenants living in the 94102 (Tenderloin) zip code. The HAP Eviction Defense Team provides full‑scope representation for tenants in unlawful detainers, supporting clients in maintaining their housing by addressing multiple facets of their lives to tackle underlying risks.
Base Pay Range
$71,000.00/yr - $72,000.00/yr
Responsibilities
Work alongside HAP Staff Attorneys to provide outreach, engagement and coordination of services to eviction clients both within HAP and with outside organizations.
Conduct home visits and coordinate client communication and engagement, including but not limited to assessing living conditions and connecting clients with appropriate resources to maintain their unit.
Locate clients who have not responded to correspondence from the HAP Attorney regarding case status, notify clients of upcoming hearings where they need to be present, arrange for and accompany clients to appointments when needed to ensure their presence.
Coordinate referrals for benefits such as General Assistance, CalFresh, SSI, Meals on Wheels, rental assistance, and payee services.
Assist clients in getting to related appointments to address underlying issues affecting their housing case, such as mental health appointments, rental assistance, or benefits‑related issues.
Provide emotional and practical support to clients to help them engage effectively with their case, gain stability in their lives and control behavior issues that contributed to the eviction.
Attend weekly meetings with HAP Eviction Attorneys.
Meet regularly with JDC Director of Social Services to discuss appropriate and effective approaches to meeting clients’ social service needs.
Maintain timely notes and records for tenant case files, and keep consistent communication with HAP Staff Attorneys.
Qualifications & Requirements
BA or MSW in Social Work or related field.
At least 2 years of experience providing case management to clients with significant mental health and/or substance abuse issues.
Knowledge of trauma‑informed approaches to care and familiarity with resources in San Francisco.
Strong oral, written, and client‑service skills.
Ability to work independently and function well in a hectic and sometimes challenging environment.
Knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access).
Bilingual ability in Spanish highly valued but not required.
