The Truancy Case Manager is responsible for providing early intervention services for youth ages 10–17 who are experiencing school attendance challenges in Orleans Parish. Utilizing a trauma-informed, family-centered, and culturally responsive approach, the Case Manager works closely with families, schools, courts, and community partners to address the root causes of truancy and reduce court involvement. This role aligns with the goals of the Truancy Assessment and Service Center (TASC) and the legal framework of Article 730 of the Louisiana Children’s Code.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive intake and needs assessments for youth referred for truancy under Article 730.
Develop and monitor Informal Family Services Plan Agreements (IFSPA) tailored to the youth’s needs, in collaboration with schools, parents, and service providers.
Facilitate and lead case staffing and Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings using Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) principles.
Make timely and appropriate referrals to mental health providers, academic support services, parenting classes, mentoring programs, and other community resources.
Maintain consistent communication with school attendance officers, school counselors, and social workers.
Track attendance and academic progress through school records and follow-up communication.
Provide court documentation and updates as needed, including progress reports and court recommendations.
Enter all case documentation in the case database management system, ensuring compliance with local and state standards.
Collaborate with FINS officers, DCFS, NOPD SROs, Children’s Advocacy Center, Orleans Parish Schools and other stakeholders to implement wraparound services.
Participate in professional development, including TBRI and trauma-informed care trainings.
Conduct home visits and school visits as appropriate.
Support family functioning and reduce risk factors contributing to chronic absenteeism.
Prepare youth and families for possible next steps, including formal court involvement if necessary.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Education, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Minimum 2 years of experience in youth services, case management, or school-based intervention.
Familiarity with Louisiana Children’s Code, Article 730, and informal FINS processes preferred.
Experience with trauma-informed care, family systems, and youth development models (TBRI certification or training a plus).
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines with professionalism and attention to detail.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and data management systems (e.g., APRICOT).
Reliable transportation for school and home visits; valid driver’s license required.
Working Conditions:
Hybrid office and field work, including school and home environments.
Some evening and weekend availability may be required for family meetings or community events.
Must be able to pass background and fingerprinting checks in accordance with court policy.
