Join Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist as the chief research informatics leader, driving innovation in translational, clinical, and population health research across the enterprise.

Role Summary
Develop and execute a strategic vision for research informatics; lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of robust informatics infrastructures; serve as a key member of the IT and School of Medicine senior leadership teams.

Responsibilities

Lead the definition and implementation of research informatics strategy across the enterprise and its affiliated institutions.

Design and maintain informatics infrastructures that support precision medicine, real‑world evidence, and large‑scale data initiatives.

Ensure interoperability, compliance, and scalability of the research data ecosystem.

Collaborate with IT, data governance, and clinical teams to enhance data availability, security, and integrity.

Promote advanced data science techniques, including machine learning and AI, to enable cutting‑edge research.

Support investigators with data curation, integration, and visualization tools.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional data governance and research regulations (HIPAA, IRB, etc.).

Oversee data access, sharing, and security processes.

Develop and manage budgets for research informatics initiatives.

Recruit, mentor, and lead a multidisciplinary team of informatics professionals.

Collaborate with faculty to integrate informatics into educational programs.

Build partnerships with academic institutions, industry, and government to expand research capabilities and funding.

Advocate for and support clinical trials and translational research through informatics tools.

Qualifications

Doctoral degree (MD, PhD, or equivalent) in biomedical informatics, health informatics, computational biology, or related field.

Advanced certification or training in informatics or data science (preferred).

Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in research informatics within a large academic health system.

Strong record of scholarly contributions in biomedical informatics.

Expertise in machine learning, AI, or advanced analytics in biomedical research (preferred).

Proof of designing and implementing informatics strategies to support research and clinical operations.

Strong knowledge of research regulations, data governance, and informatics platforms.

Demonstrated collaboration with diverse stakeholders (researchers, clinicians, IT, administrators).

Visionary leadership, strategic thinking, and analytical technical expertise.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
