Overview Clinical Informatics Specialist RN WMCG - Augusta Georgia role at Wellstar Health System. The Clinical Informatics Specialist RN is a clinical professional who works under the direction of the Clinical Informatics Manager to provide clinical informatics services to individuals, physicians, departments and agencies within WellStar Health System.
Job Summary The Clinical Informatics Specialist RN participates in the assessment of needs pertaining to clinical information systems, including hardware, software, staff development and management support. Provides content expertise that supports care area teams. Transforms health care by analyzing, designing, implementing, and evaluating information and communication systems that enhance health outcomes, improve patient care, and strengthen the clinician-patient relationship. In collaboration with clinical leaders, designs, develops and implements the clinical informatics plan. Provides leadership and change management to advance the clinical team utilization of informatics. Oversees end user optimization and efficiency, embeds evidence-based and analytics models to ensure patient outcomes and improve clinical performance. Works with IT, providers, super-users, clinical departments and other WHS personnel to accomplish strategic goals.
Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions Clinical informaticians use their knowledge of patient care combined with informatics concepts, methods, and health informatics. Analyze clinical workflows and promote process changes to support proficient use of the system.
Assess information and knowledge needs of health care professionals and patients.
Characterize, evaluate, and refine clinical processes.
Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
Maintain clinical policies and procedures as they relate to computerized documentation.
Coordinate complex projects and assist the project leader and manager where appropriate.
Work independently on routine assignments and strive to improve skills and problem-solving abilities.
Complete assigned projects on time.
Assist in the analysis, development, testing, and implementation phases of new systems and future growth.
Participate in the development of project-specific work plans and tasks.
Provide leadership on assigned projects.
Analyze and evaluate present or proposed business procedures or problems to define data processing needs and workflow.
Lead or participate in the procurement, customization, development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of clinical information systems.
Use judgment and seek assistance when guidelines, policies, and processes are inadequate, significant deviations are proposed, or unanticipated problems arise.
Mentor and/or lead staff as associated with operational improvement processes and/or projects.
Maintain current knowledge of relevant technology, equipment, and/or systems.
Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
Provide on-site support and escalate problems to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
Assist with optimization and enhancement initiatives.
Provide advanced technical assistance and maintenance support to end users; serve as first-level support when assigned; recommend training as needed.
Conduct training with end users individually or in groups.
Create education/training documentation to maximize feature usage.
Document projects, write and review user instructions, and train as needed.
Serve as a professional role model within clinical settings and mentor peers and staff.
Initiate and promote performance improvement activities to promote quality patient care and accountability.
Support IS policies, procedures and initiatives; participate in departmental meetings and committees as needed.

Keep abreast of current events in clinical informatics and travel as necessary.

Required Minimum Education Associates and/or equivalent required
Bachelor of Science in a health-related field - preferred
Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s) Registered Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact
Basic Life Support (BLS) - Instructor
Additional License(s) And Certification(s) Required Minimum Experience Minimum 3 years of experience in clinical practice at the bedside and/or information systems related activities; experience with a combination of clinical practice and information system implementations is required and preferred.
Required Minimum Skills Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
Strong customer service skills
Proficient in Internet browsers and Microsoft Office
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Organized with strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities
Good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
Ability to multi-task and perform in stressful or emergency situations
