Summary The Clinical Educator is a professional development specialist whose primary responsibility is to facilitate lifelong learning and professional development activities among clinical staff. Using adult learning theory and instructional design, the Clinical Educator supports outcomes in areas such as new hire orientation, ongoing competency, in-services, continuing education, career development, scholarship/research, and academic partnerships.
Responsibilities Onboarding/Orientation: develop, coordinate, manage, facilitate, conduct and evaluate onboarding and orientation programs for clinical personnel, including transition-to-practice programs for novice or new graduate clinicians.
Competency Management: develop, coordinate, manage, facilitate, conduct and evaluate initial and ongoing competency programs for clinical personnel.
Education: design, implement and evaluate educational activities and programs based on identified practice gaps; apply educational theory and adult learning principles to enhance professional development.
Professional Role Development: facilitate lifelong learning, including role transition, role integration, skill acquisition and mastery.
Quality Improvement/Evidence-based Practice/Research: integrate best research evidence into education design; promote and participate in research, EBP, and quality improvement initiatives.
Collaborative Partnerships: consult and coordinate with colleagues, departments and institutions regarding education and learning.
Work Experience At least 3 years of related nursing experience required
Documentation of previous teaching experience preferred
Education Four-year Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
Graduate or professional work or advanced degree preferred
Licenses and Certifications State or national licensure/certification for clinical practice (e.g., RN, RRT, PT/OT, etc.) as required
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by policy
PALS, PEARS/PACES, or NRP as required by specialty area
PacES certification if required (timeline per policy)
National specialty certification appropriate for area(s) of responsibility preferred
