Overview Certified Peer Outreach Community Safety Case Manager - Violence Prevention role at YMCA of Greater Seattle. The CPC/CM will serve youth and families affected by gun violence and/or group/gang involvement, and involvement with the juvenile justice system, within King County and unincorporated areas. The position requires intensive and coordinated responses to youth participants and community members experiencing trauma from acts of violence at various sites including but not limited to detention facilities, hospitals, and vigils during evenings and weekends as required.
The CPC/CM will connect youth and families to services, resources, social and wellbeing support, and work toward freeing their lives from violence and system services involvement. You will collaborate with co-workers, supervisors, outside professionals, and others to provide services in client homes, schools, community centers, or other convenient locations. You will complete assessments and create service plans that mitigate risk factors and encourage active engagement to build protective factors and life skills.
This position is at the Social Impact Center Y, the social services branch of YMCA of Greater Seattle (YGS). The mission of the Social Impact Center Y is to accelerate young people’s ability to build safe, successful, and happy lives. Hiring Range $24.00 - $27.00/hour
Responsibilities Fulfill the duties as assigned by each contract of the Violence Prevention Program. Develop collaborative relationships with youth participants and community members to support and engage them in the Safe Passage Program’s established safety protocols.
Document all activities related to program participants in Credible (EHR) daily to maintain client files in accordance with grant and licensing requirements.
Be apprised of community violence, tension and gang conflicts and communicate information in real time to supervisor, appropriate safety agencies and to all VP teams.
Monitor designated “safety zones” that include local neighborhoods, school zones and community centers during peak times (before/after school, community events).
Provide supervision and arrange for safe transition for students/youth from school to next destination (home, bus stop/light rail), after school activity or program.
Provide daily leadership communication regarding incidents or suspicious activity and respond to “Shots Fired” incidents alongside SPD and First Responders at incident sites within contracted communities when required.
Be available to work all assigned shifts that may include some evenings and weekends.

Actively participate in community events and VP organized events to promote safety and peace.
Provide mediation assistance in escalating situations and complete and submit accurate timesheets and reimbursement forms within designated timeframes.
Participant Engagement Responsibilities Develop collaborative relationships with local schools and community centers/hubs to identify youth that may require services.
Learn and utilize street outreach strategies to engage at-risk youth in program services.
Complete assessments for every youth assigned to caseload to determine risks, needs, and goals; create safety plans to reduce risk of violence, gang activity, and criminal activity.
Develop safety plans including community-based services addressing needs and goals of youth participants.
Provide support and guidance to engage youth in culturally responsive community partners and agencies.
Advocate for services by submitting referrals, scheduling, and attending intake appointments with service providers.
Meet with youth participants at community locations (schools, homes, centers) as stipulated (e.g., twice weekly).
Document all assessment and safety plan activities in Credible and review notes daily to ensure progress toward safety goals.

Qualifications Must be at least 21 years of age, or 18-21 if enrolled in a social service internship/practicum with an accredited college or university and can provide documentation.
High school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of direct experience working with children, youth, and families.
Washington State Agency Affiliated Counselor Certification or be eligible; be able to meet the needs of children in child welfare care.
Ability to transport self and client(s) and have access to a working vehicle with insurance; reliable transportation required.
Intermediate proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, and case management software; experience tracking data and producing reports.
Strong organizational and communication skills with attention to detail and timelines.
Current state approved first aid, CPR, and HIV/AIDS training certification; TB test by Mantoux method.
Be a Certified Peer Counselor (CPC) or complete CPC classes and pass WA State test within 6 months of hire, or have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in social work or related field.
Personal lived experience overcoming barriers similar to the program’s client population (e.g., involvement in gangs or the criminal justice system).
Strong ties to the local community and familiarity with local programs, services, and agencies.
Ability to work in high-risk community settings during nontraditional hours; willingness to work evenings and weekends; experience serving diverse communities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in social work, social services, or related field.
2+ years of related experience working with elevated risk, system-involved youth or young adults.
Other applicable education, training, and experience considered.
