Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Faculty Group Practice Medical Assistant. The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians and/or Advanced Care Practitioners and nurses in providing patient care, validating patient identifiers, preparing patients and rooms for examination, measuring and recording vital signs, drawing blood, and collecting other lab samples. The Medical Assistant also handles administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and data entry.
Job Responsibilities
Escort patients to exam rooms
Clean and stock exam rooms
Measure and record patient vital signs
Obtain and process blood samples per NYU Langone Health policy
Support quality initiatives by following FGP guidelines for collecting and documenting information in the EMR
Promote a positive patient experience
Communicate effectively with providers and administrative staff; escalate issues as needed
Answer phone calls and respond to in-basket messages
Follow up on prescription refill requests
Assist physicians with patient intake and transcribing visit into EPIC
Perform other duties as needed
Clinical & Administrative Responsibilities
Complete necessary intake, including obtaining patient vital signs and other tests within defined scope of practice
Validate patient medical records when accessing and updating information (name and date of birth)
Assist with maintaining patient flow to and from exam rooms and treatment areas; escort patients and specimens as needed
Ensure exam rooms and treatment areas are cleaned per infection control standards after each patient
Explain MyChart functionality to patients during intake
Ensure appropriate translation services or equipment are in place prior to the start of visits
Assist with blood/specimen collection and proper handling and processing per organizational policy
Perform Point of Care testing (e.g., EKG, glucose testing, pregnancy test, urinalysis) per policy and with required competency documentation
Prepare patient encounters with up-to-date information (bloodwork, radiology images, medications, past medical history)
Review and import relevant patient information before provider encounters
Ensure logbooks for equipment, specimen collection, and safety measures are followed per FGP standards
Support best-practice workflows for MIPS by updating medical records with vitals and immunization/history information; scan/upload diagnostic reports as applicable
Maintain patient privacy in line with HIPAA standards
Handle patient calls and document outcomes; refer clinical questions to RN/Provider
Patient Experience and Access
Demonstrate CARES principles (Connect, Align, Respond, Ensure, Sign-Off) in every patient and colleague interaction
Greet patients professionally and communicate each step of the care process as appropriate
Collaborate with colleagues and site management to ensure a positive experience and timely resolution for inquiries
Anticipate patient needs and participate in service recovery, escalating to leadership as appropriate
Share ideas to improve patient experience and access with leadership
Collaborate with Patient Access Center and Central Billing Office to support a positive patient experience
Ensure staff are versed in Access Agreement principles
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program OR current medical assistant certification from a nationally recognized accredited institution (e.g., AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA) upon hire. Competencies include working knowledge of English (verbal, reading, writing); computer skills; ability to multitask and work in a team to support positive patient care experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
MA experience preferred. EKG, phlebotomy, and venipuncture experience preferred.

Salary information: NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency. The range for this role is $52,468.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses or other compensation.
