The Research Assistant will perform a variety of routine tasks associated with the seed research program. Tasks will include pollination of corn plants and harvest of corn ears according to established research protocols. The type of task will be dependent on the stage of the crop and will be seasonal in nature. Additional field and shade house tasks may include planting, thinning, weeding, tissue sampling, pollination, transplanting, transpotting, pot or flat filling, plant tagging, seedling rearray, plant cutting, husk back, harvest, and pest management activities such as pesticide applications. Additional sample processing tasks including preparation of supplies, sorting, shelling, weighing, counting, preparation for shipping, and seed packaging. General facility operations tasks include general clean-up, organization of samples and supplies, and other routine and non-routine tasks as they arise.

Position Description:

  • A Shelter Case Manager provides comprehensive case management services to persons experiencing homelessness: services include development of housing and support plans, resource/referrals for basic needs, benefits coordination, employment referrals, vital document assistance, client advocacy, service referrals to community partners, crises intervention, and more Be able to provide strengths based case management to individuals who are seeking permanent housing while problem solving potential barriers.
  • Be able to complete relevant housing applications with clients.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to schedule and manage workload.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage a caseload (no greater than 1:25).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Skills Preferred:

  • Knowledge of current homelessness strategies and priorities [Trauma-Informed Care, Housing First, Equity].
  • Knowledge of current social service, homeless, and housing issues and methods/approaches to address issues.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Bilingual skills a plus
  • Experience with providing services to clients experiencing homelessness, Mental Health or substance abuse issues
  • Experience utilizing the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).

Experience Required:

  • Social work/case management experience with homeless and/or at-risk populations or experience working in an emergency shelter setting, or other similar case management experience.


Experience Preferred:

  • Previous experience providing street outreach services, case management, or human services to individuals experiencing homelessness.

Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a human service-related field.

Additional Information:

  • The role will also support drop-in services through a scheduled rotation with shelter case management staff to engaged individuals who walk-in seeking services toward resolving their experience of homelessness.
