Behavioral Health Care Manager I
Location: Preferred candidate will live within a commutable distance to one of our CA offices.
Shift: 8:30am – 5pm Pacific Time.
This role enables associates to work virtually full‑time, with the exception of required in‑person training sessions. It promotes productivity, supports work‑life integration, and ensures face‑to‑face onboarding.
Responsibilities
Use appropriate screening criteria and clinical judgment to assess member needs and ensure medically necessary, quality behavioral healthcare in a cost‑effective setting per UM Clinical Guidelines and contracts.
Refer cases to Peer Reviewers as appropriate.
Coordinate, implement, case‑plan, monitor, and evaluate psychiatric and substance abuse or substance abuse disorder treatment to promote quality member outcomes and optimize health benefit use.
Minimum Requirements
MA/MS in social work, counseling, or related behavioral health field, or a nursing degree, combined with a minimum of 3 years of experience in facility‑based and/or outpatient psychiatric or substance abuse treatment.
Current active unrestricted license such as RN, LCSW, LMSW, LMHC, LPC, LBA, LMFT, or Clinical Psychologist required, or an equivalent state‑approved credential.
For states not requiring licensure, a Board Certified Behavioral Analyst (BCBA) may be acceptable if performing UM approvals only, reviewing ABA services only, and having licensed staff supervision.
Preferred Skills, Capabilities, and Experiences
Experience in case management/utilization management with complex psychiatric/substance abuse cases.
Experience with eating disorder care/UM.
Salary and Benefits
Salary range: $72,036 – $112,752 (California).
