Assistant Professor, Cancer Medicine/Palliative, Rehabilitation and Integrative Medicine/Integrative Medicine
This is a faculty position responsible to the Chairman, Department of Palliative, Rehabilitation and Integrative Medicine, Division of Cancer Medicine. Provides clinical and research expertise in patient care in Integrative Medicine, and an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents, observers, visitors, and students of cancer medicine.
Clinical - 80%
- Practice clinical medicine in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Examiners and the American Medical Association, properly balanced with other academic activities.
- Develop and maintain a service for patients referred to the UT M. D. Anderson Cancer Center.
- Provide clinical staffing for the department at a level commensurate with that which would be provided by other clinicians with the same level of training and experience.
- Visually review for proper ICD-10 and CPT coding and approve all charge documents within one working day.
- Complete patient documentation for medical records within timeframes provided by institutional policy.
- Correspond as appropriate in writing or in telephone conversations with referring physicians and other health care personnel regarding patient care and treatment.
- Request appropriate consultations for patients by phone conversations or in writing to other physicians and other health care personnel as appropriate.
- Provide a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows, residents, and students rotating in the department.
- Provide a balanced and integrated educational program in cancer medicine for fellows and for observers, visitors, medical residents, and students.
- Develop, implement, provide, and evaluate written learning materials for the specific graduate curriculum in cancer medicine.
- Develop and implement specific continuing education programs pertaining to cancer medicine.
- Attend and participate in Division/Department teaching and continuing education conferences.
- Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the department.
Administration - 5%
- Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by attending appropriate meetings.
Research - 10%
- Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment.
- Develop programs of clinical research and scholarly activities in keeping within the goals of the department.
- Seek appropriate funding mechanism to support clinical or basic research.
Education - 5%
- Represent the department in local, regional, state, and national matters pertaining to cancer medicine.
- Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by attending appropriate meetings.
- Keep abreast of current approaches in the management of patients through attendance at continuing education conferences.
Qualifications Required: Doctorate-level degree in a field appropriate to faculty role and department mission Preferred: Physician with post-graduate specialty degree in Internal Medicine and sub-specialties, Anesthesiology, Rehabilitation Medicine, or Family Medicine. Previous training in palliative care or symptom control desirable. Must be able to work within a context of very intense interpersonal relationships with other physicians, patients, and subordinates. Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Palliative Medicine or Rehabilitation Medicine. Required: Degree and residency requirements as defined by the Texas Medical Board. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
Experience: Doctorate level degree. Has completed residency or clinical fellowship in family medicine, palliative medicine, or rehabilitation medicine or GME trainee (except specialties with shorter residencies or fellowships).
