Reporting to: Chairman, Department of Palliative, Rehabilitation and Integrative Medicine, Division of Cancer Medicine
Responsibilities
Provide clinical and research expertise in patient care in Integrative Medicine and serve as a role model for faculty, fellows, residents, and students.
Practice clinical medicine in accordance with Texas State Board of Examiners and AMA standards, balanced with academic activities.
Develop and maintain a service for patients referred to the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Provide clinical staffing at a level commensurate with other clinicians of the same training and experience.
Review coding and approve charge documents within one working day.
Complete patient documentation within institutional timeframes.
Correspond with referring physicians and health care personnel regarding patient care.
Request appropriate consultations by phone or in writing.
Provide a balanced and integrated educational program for fellows, observers, visitors, residents, and students.
Develop, implement, provide, and evaluate written learning materials for the graduate curriculum in cancer medicine.
Develop specific continuing education programs pertaining to cancer medicine.
Attend and participate in department teaching and continuing education conferences.
Provide peer review assessing clinical practice of faculty within the Department.
Administration
Serve on institutional and hospital committees as requested by attending appropriate meetings.
Research
Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activity to enhance the academic environment of the Department.
Develop programs of clinical research and scholarly activities within Department goals.
Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support clinical or basic research.
Education
Represent the Department in local, regional, state, and national matters pertaining to cancer medicine and serve on institutional committees.
Qualifications
Required: Doctorate-level degree in a field appropriate to faculty role and department mission.
Physician with postgraduate specialty degree in Internal Medicine and sub-specialties, Anesthesiology, Rehabilitation Medicine, or Family Medicine.
Previous training in palliative care or symptom control desirable.
Must be able to work within intense interpersonal relationships.
Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in Palliative Medicine or Rehabilitation Medicine.
Education and Licensure
Required: Degree and residency requirements defined by Texas Medical Board. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
Experience
Doctorate level degree.
Completed residency or clinical fellowship in family medicine, palliative medicine, or rehabilitation medicine.
GME trainee (except specialties with shorter residencies or fellowships).
