Responsibilities Leads or participates in project teams that include clinical staff and Information Services analysts/application development staff in the design, selection, development, implementation, evaluation, and optimization of information systems to support clinical practice, research, and education.
Manages aspects of projects related to business and clinical functional requirements, detailed software requirements, clinical knowledge integration, and consultation for application development.
Participates in developing and implementing a vision for how technology can support professional nursing practice and how nursing can capture data describing nursing impact on patient outcomes.
Integrates ergonomics and human-computer interaction principles into informatics solution design, development, selection, implementation, evaluation, and optimization.
Integrates knowledge of current professional practice standards, laws, and regulations into informatics practice.
Develops or participates in standards pertaining to information systems that support documentation of nursing and health professions practice.
Implements processes to evaluate the impact of technology on nursing practice and patient outcomes, and suggests optimization or innovation as needed.
Keeps abreast of advances in healthcare technology and information management systems and translates them into nursing practice.
Participates in developing and implementing standardized data to support performance improvement, research, education, patient experience, and prevention of clinical risk and harm.
Develops and maintains productive relationships with physicians, hospital administrators, Information Services leadership, and UTMB School of Nursing to advance nursing informatics practice and the use of technology in nursing.
Provides system analysis, interpretation, and consultation to others.
Identifies and recommends fiscal, material, and human resource requirements for informatics projects.
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree (either the Baccalaureate or Master’s degree must be in nursing).
Current experience in a progressive academic medical center or large complex system with a minimum of five (5) years of informatics or data/analytics experience.
Prior experience in clinical nursing practice and/or management.
Clinical and administrative systems implementation and project management experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in nursing informatics
Quality and change management experience
Large-scale project implementation experience
Licenses, Registrations or Certifications Registered Nurse with a current license to practice professional nursing in Texas.
Board certified in nursing informatics
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Working knowledge of HIPAA, CMS, TJC, federal and state regulations related to electronic health records and information systems security.
Ability to leverage healthcare information systems to drive improvements in clinical workflows and patient care delivery.
Advanced knowledge of organizational development, systems and change theories, and statistics.
Ability to shape and implement a vision for seamless data collection and nursing documentation.
Ability to work independently and within interdisciplinary teams to make effective decisions.
Strong leadership and management skills.
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to develop effective relationships with a broad array of stakeholders.
